There is a big stigma these days about technology that its sole purpose is to keep us distracted and entertained long enough for the rest of the world to fall into chaos around us. How can we not be distracted by the endless sea of content, memes, and tragedy that keeps our eyes glued to our screens? How often have you scrolled past something and wished you had the power to change it? How many times have you retweeted something to show your support and felt like you were helping that cause?
There are atrocities that happen every day that go unnoticed simply because they don’t directly affect our loved ones or us. There was a flood in Sri Lanka, where 400 people died. Have you heard about it? Did you happen to scroll past the empty graves where people were lined up to identify the bodies of those found?
Sure the US has enough to worry about with its flood of hate finally taking its hood off and showing its face, but could it be that these two events have a connection? Could it be that all atrocities and tragedies share a common thread? Yes. Yes, it can. It’s called humans. We are the root cause of all the horrible things that happen, but we are also the solution. Our minds and mentality hold all the answers to all the world’s suffering. We may not be able to predict floods or terrorist attacks but we sure as hell can control how we react to them.
It all starts with you. It starts with me. It starts with your brothers, your sisters, your mom, dad, friends anyone you come into contact with. Do not underestimate the power of the individual. Do not underestimate the power of like minded people coming together. That is the whole point of the iChange series.
I am going to show you how you can use your phone as more than just a distraction brick and use it to better your life. How you can use it to change your mentality and change your life. You have to use all the tools at your disposal, but how can you when you don’t even know what’s out there?
Now I know what you’re thinking, “Did this kid just go on a rant about all of the worlds issues and how it’s our responsibility and end by saying he’s going to show us some apps?!?!” Yes. I did. WAIT ILL EXPLAIN WHY, DON’T LEAVE. Okay, so ONE MAN single handily threw America back into the 1940s. Do you think Trump is a stable man? Do you think he meditates? Journals? Take time to reflect on himself? Maybe he does and is just delusional, but my bet is he hasn’t had a single moment of reflection his entire life.
That is where the issue lies. We don’t hold ourselves accountable, we require therapy and friends and family and like minded individuals to validate what we think, how we think, and why we think that way. Imagine being your own best friend where you motivate yourself, do things for yourself and can go to sleep and wake up knowing you are truly a good person. All it takes is one person to start. That person shares with two more people and those two share with five people. That is how a revolution begins. I hope you will join me on this mission to change the world. One person at a time. One mentality at a time.
